A warm welcome...

...to my website dk9ca.de.

First of all, apologies for my bad English, but i hope you can understand me. Most german amateur radio websites are unfortunately written in german language only. Due to the fact that radio amateurs have contacts around the world, I decided to offer my website also in English. I hope you like the page despite a possibly not quite correct translation... ;)

Here you will find information about me and my beautiful amateur radio hobby. My name is Martin and I was born in 1977. I grew up in Hankensbüttel, a small, contemplative village on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath in Lower Saxony, Germany. The "HF Bug" bit me at the tender age of 8 or 9 when I soldered my first medium wave radio at the "Volkshochschule". It was also the same time when my parents gave me the first handheld radio for Christmas, at that time still in the 11m CB radio band. Since then, "Bavaria Fox", "Black Angel" or "Firebird", sometimes to the dismay of the established CB radio operators, have become an integral part of the local ether. But for most young people, the interest in radio broadcasting usually waned very quickly, but not for me. Back then Siegfried, DD3OE † installed my first λ/2 at my parents' house, and with the "Start1" from DNT was the first "full" device in the house.

With the first own car our "radio interest community" also increased and until the year 2001 there was always a radio in the car, even if there was no longer any possibility to set up an antenna at home and the number of active CB radio operators continued to decrease. After my time in the German Armed Forces and the associated long absence from home, I came back into contact with the radio operators in our area, some of whom had just passed the exam for the newly introduced amateur radio class 3 there. So I also came to amateur radio and in August 2001 i passed the amateur radio exam for a Class 3 (at that time a limited FM license) after 2 weeks of intensive preparation.

Since then I have been "DO1OMS". On November 12, 2012 the call sign was changed to "DO1CA" for a better readability in SSB operations and on May 29, 2019 I finally passed the exam for the Advanced Class after 18 years been a "DO-ler".
